Hands down, this is the most expensive city that we’ve encountered in Europe. The food in this town is damn pricey. Everything is double price from the standard tourist markups. Kebab shops, McDonald’s are averaging $10 USD for a medium value meal (don’t even consider super-sizing, not that you should anyway). Espresso stop, a mere $9 USD… uh, plus 24% tax. Crazy place.
Good weather here, though. Cute buildings. Still summer, so all is well. People look happy. Restaurants look empty. Sandwich takeout shops look full.
On the practical front, we finally figured out how to get home again. August is a hard to travel within (or to be more exact, to travel out of Europe), since EVERYONE here is on holiday. We’ve been trying to get a flight that works with our fare basis for many days now. Looks like we finally found one and will be out of here within the week.
We’ve now been the fine passengers of many a discount airline. Wizz, Sterling, Ryan Air, EasyJet and Czech Airways. They really are a mixed blessing. Good fares for oneway travel at the last minute, but really mixed quality and the tiniest seats we’ve ever encountered. Oh, and the color schemes… that really must be where they are shaving costs. Fuchia, orange and brown, baby blue… must be good sales on plane paint.
